BFF's
About a month ago, we added a new member to our family. His name is Junior. Kate absolutely loves this dog. They've become the best of friends and Junior is kind enough to endure whatever kind of 'fun' Kate has planned for them that day.

Speaking of friendships, I've had to rekindle an old one...and it's a beautiful thing.
Tums have made their way back into my life. The heartburn has started kicking in. But I must say, I LOVE Tums. I love them almost as much as I loved my Flinstone Vitamins when I was a kid. It was like candy, only it was good for me. I used to beg my mom to let me eat one of each color, instead of just one a day. And if I remember correctly, there were a few days I snuck back into the kitchen for an extra. Maybe that's why I grew to be so tall? Just kiddin'. My dad is 6'5, so that's where the height comes into play. So anyway, I'm back to snacking on Tums, and just like my vitamins as a kid, I still try and remember which color/flavor I ate last time and go for a different one each time. The Maalox tablets aren't too shabby either.

The Maalox tablets aren't too shabby either. I never knew what heartburn felt like until I got pregnant. I used to hear my dad and grandad talk about it and never understood. But now I do. It's fierce. And ironically, it doesn't really burn in your heart region as much as it does in the back of your throat and esophagus. Sorry, sometimes I get carried away with details. And because I'm slightly obsessed with words and their meanings, it bothers me a bit that the word heartburn is a bit misleading.
Wow, sometimes the nerd in me slips out.
It's rare, but occasionally it does happen.
Tomorrow night M to the Izz-A is going to speak at my sister and her husband's (Sal Gal and Chad) church about the missions trip he took to Brazil. As he was preparing tonight, I realized that I never posted the pics from his trip. I plan on posting them soon. Please say a little prayer that God would use him and speak through him according to His perfect will.

Valentine's Weekend
Saturday morning M to the Izz-A got me out of bed at 7am and told me we needed to leave by 7:45.
Ummm. Run that by me again?
And on top of it all, he told me to dress comfortably and to pull yesterday's hair up into a ponytail. Not exactly what you have in mind when you think of Valentine's Day.
All I could think (and say) was, "Okay Buster, this better be good."
Because he had me curious, I got ready and we were headed out before 8am. And since we live in MiddleofaHayfield, USA we have to give ourselves plenty of travel time wherever we go. By 8:45am we were pulling into a familiar parking lot...the same place we had our sonogram to tell us that we were having a lil' baby boy. The sides of my mouth broke into a slight grin at this point...
At first I thought he scheduled for me to have another sonogram - 3-D or something. But when we walked in I realized that I was there for a prenatal massage. Score!
I've never had a prenatal massage and it was amazing. I left there feeling so relaxed. All of my aches and pains were gone. My lower back has been bothering me lately as my belly has been pulling everything outta line. But after that massage, the pain was gone. At least for now. Way to go, M to the Izz-A!
After a lunch date consisting of tons of pasta and salad, we headed home and spent some time with Kate and Matt's mother, who was in town visiting and playing babysitter for us.
That evening we went out for BBQ with some friends. There we four couples to be exact, so you know we piled into The Mini (Ben and Kristin's mini-van) and headed out! It's just not a trip without the The Mini. We always try to make Kristin promise to never get rid of it.
As we pulled up to the restaurant, we realized that BBQ obviously wasn't high on the list of hot spots for VDay dinner dates. We were the only ones in the restaurant! Needless to say we had excellent service, I mean really good....as if we were the only customers there. Oh wait. We were.

He was happy, regardless of the fact that it turned out to be a total flop. The taste is really the only thing that counts anyway, right?

Hope you all had a great V-Day weekend. I'm off work today and am enjoying the day with Kate. I love days at home, just being a mommy, watching Curious George and Clifford the Big Red Dog. I may just leave these pj pants on all day. Heck, it's about noon anyway and I've still got them on.
If I can stay this unproductive all day, it'll be a great day.

I meant to snap a pic of everyone together, but it just didn't happen. It was a fun night - the kind of night when you ride home with your face hurting a lil' bit from laughing so much.
After church on Sunday, Kate and I baked our Valentine a heart-shaped cake. It ended up falling after I stacked the two layers. One side caved in under the pressure of the icing and strawberries...and we actually ran out of icing before we had the whole thing finished. Oh well. We just crossed our fingers and hoped that the thought behind it counted more than the actual finished product.

And that's as far as we've gotten
So, you wanna see Hamp's nursery?
Welp. Here it is...

What I should've had painted were those dark roots. It's okay. When you've got a handy dandy tool girl as cute as that beside you, everything else falls to the wayside.
Welp. Here it is...
And it's been that way for the past week or two.
We did actually manage to get registered this past weekend. And we found a little time to start painting. I say 'we'. What I should say is 'they'. The only thing I painted were my fingernails.

I've got my next doctor's appointment on Wednesday. I always look forward to hearing his little heartbeat. Something tells me this boy's gonna be hyper, like Kate....and their daddy, of course. So far it seems that the only thing my kids are gonna inherit from me are my long toes.
Lucky kids.

Earning Her New Digs
I think it was Warren G and Nate Dog that said, "You've gotta be handy with the steel hammer, if you know what I mean, earn your keep."
Friday:

Kate helped M to the Izz-A all weekend putting together the pieces for her new room. She helped put her big girl bed together and helped paint the toy shelf that Daddy made.
Saturday:

Monday:

Junior just didn't have it in him to find the humor in the fact that Kate thought his nose needed a fresh coat of paint.

Her room no longer looks like a nursery. It's a 'big girl' room as we call it. Click here to see the before: Kate's nursery.

And this is the after:

And I ordered these cute art prints and matching door sign from etsy. They should be in any day now.

I love reorganizing, moving around furniture, and remaking over rooms, but this one was bittersweet for me. I can't believe my little girl doesn't need a crib anymore, and that she actually sleeps better in a real bed. The first night I saw her lying in bed, I had to smile to myself as I found comfort in the fact that she still looks so little in a 'real' bed. I was so glad she did. She's still little to me. And it seems she's growing up way to fast, as cliche as that sounds.

Tonight I copied some lyrics into the little journal that I keep for her from the Sidewalk Prophets song, "The Words I Would Say":
Be strong in the Lord and, never give up hope.
You're gonna do great things,
I already know,
God's got His hand on you,
Don't live life in fear,
Forgive and forget,
But don't forget why you're here,
Take your time and pray,
These are the words I would say.
Thank God for each day.
Before I had a child I used to think about what it would be like to have kids, and how I hoped that they'd be good at this or good at that... a great athlete, prom queen, valedictorian or whatever. But now it's not that all. As long as my children love the Lord with all of their heart, and have a heart serving Him and others before themselves, I'll be one proud, happy mommy. When it comes down to it, none of that other stuff really matters, at all.
Wow. I just realized I quoted a rap song (old school as it may be) and a praise and worship song all in one post.
Nice.
