Sometimes running through the sprinkler just doesn't cut it

What started out as a day for our kids, ended up taking a slightly different turn.

Our friends Brandon and Kasey brought their kids, Hayley and Leighton, over to play with Kate on Saturday and brought their Slip-N-Slide along. As they unrolled it, we all just looked at each other.

Is it just me or have Slip-N-Slides gotten smaller over the years? I remember them looking a lot bigger than they do now...kind of like how I think Little Debbie's have gotten smaller, too.

Maybe it's just that as a kid everything looks bigger than it does when you're an adult.

Whatever the case, if the grown-ups were going to join in on the fun, something had to be done. Luckily Brandon had already thought of this and brought along a little something extra...

big plastic tarp + dish soap + sprinkler = fun for all ages

Kate, Hayley, and Leighton thought it was fun for about 10 minutes and then decided it was more entertaining to watch.

Buck even joined in on the fun!

This was one sleepy little girl. She ended up taking a late nap around 5:30pm and slept 'til morning! Is that crazy or is that crazy?

This particular throw started their argument discussion on which one of them has gained the most weight since high school. Women aren't that stupid.

And then they realized that Kasey and I weren't as busy taking care of the kids as we were pretending to be. So they turned up the pressure and had us slippin' and slidin' in no time.

You know that feeling when you really want to do something, but are kind of scared to attempt it? That's how I was about the whole situation. I haven't done this since I was a kid, and had a kid body. And weighed a kid amount. And all I could think of was the impact of my adult-self hitting the ground. I wanted to be able to walk into church on Sunday without a back brace.

After saying that I'd go first and then changing my mind, Kasey took the plunge and made it look easy.

Then it was my turn...

As if closing my eyes was going to help anything.

Sooo much fun!!!

Then we got all brave and started going together. I seriously haven't had this much fun in a while!

We should have stopped while we were ahead.

By the look on our faces, this is the one slide that did us in. I don't actually remember it being as painful as the photo is making it out to be, but this morning I was reminded of why I involuntarily made that face.

Thank the Lord for good times, good friends, and Ibuprofen.

my daughter was really worn out after a busy weekend at her grandparents. she slept in till 10 this morning.....she is usually up at 7-7:30! i started thinking something was wrong. she was just flat worn out.

This is totally what we do during hurricane season!! hahaha! when it's pouring rain and there is nothing to do because everything is wet... and if you try anything you're going to get wet! We actually made a slide down the septic tank in Dean's mom's yard with 3 of those plastic tarps!!! lol... good times, good times!

I am cracking up! I was thinking about the ol' slip and slide today!! I VIVIDLY remember the last time I played. It was around the time the bra came into play, and it hurt sooooo bad to slide on that dang thing! Darn puberty.

Great action photography too; those ones with the plume of spray coming up are particularly good.

Yep.. have done that & been sore for a week afterwards!!!

but BEWARE!!!! Doing that with multiple people is that landed me in surgery for a blood clot in my leg.... sliding into each other... a year later, I still have the scar & the pains from it.... OUCH - painful memories of a slip n slide!

Wow! These photos are great!

We actually bought a slip n slide a few weeks ago. I've never done it before in my life. When we took it out of the package, I thought it was tiny. I was immediately scared to even try it. I pictured broken ribs. ;)

Hilarious, Hollie!! I'm not a morning person and I didn't realize it was possible to laugh so much this early in the morning. Love it. I love when adults like to have fun, too! :)

I'll just say I was laughing until the flips off the dock... that makes me nervous!

Haha! That is awesome! I give you a ton of credit for getting in there and doing it. I immediately got nervous when I read that you were gonna do it. Like you, it sounds like so much fun, but I would be worried about the impact on my adult body. ;) Kinda makes me want to try it now. Although, maybe I should wait until I'm not pregnant anymore. ;) hehe
