But I'm Known To Rock The Microphone

Kate has a toddler music cd that has permanently made a home in our car's cd player. One day I drove all the way to work listening to it and didn't even realize it. Kate wasn't even with me! I think I even sang with it.

She loves certain songs on it and one of her faves is 'Where is Thumbkin'. I, of course, do the hand motions with it (yes, while driving) as she follows along. If I try to skip the motions one day, she protests, in her own way, that I do them. The problem is that no one can see her in the back seat and here I am traveling on my merry way doing weird hand motions while other drivers look at me like I'm nuts. I'm worried someone will call my tag number in and report me as having a seizure.

Another one of her favorites is 'One, Two, Buckle My Shoe...' but only if I sing it in my best rap star voice. What can I say? She prefers it hip-hop style and I, of course, have no objections busting out some sweet toddler rhymes with the occasional beat-box mixed in. I sometimes double-check that no one is in hearing range before I start my performance. It's things like this that remind me of just how weird where are. And love it.

A few of you have asked to see pics of Kate's room. I'll try to post some soon. Don't worry, it doesn't have posters of Snoop Dogg taped to the walls.

What is it with little girls and hip hop? Sophia loves music, but if you put hip hop music on, it's an instant smile on her face! Must be the beat?

I'm beside myself with curiosity - what does a hip-hop "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" sound like? I think a video post is in order.

On the Snoop Dogg note, have you seen his reality show? Remarkably normal - almost boring, actually - if a bit, er, chemically enhanced (I suspect).

I can't help but laugh because I think we all do things in thr car with our kids that are sure to make other drivers do a double take.

I sing kids songs all the time. Right before our Christmas program, I couldn't even sleep because they were filling my head! Maybe I should do them in a wrapper voice...

PS- I tagged you on my blog!

That is just way too cute! And it's so funny that you said you drove and listened to it all by yourself without realizing it. One time my husband left ESPN radio on in my car, and I just drove to work with it on. I came home from work that night and was throwing out sports stats because they just seeped into my brain subconsciously!

Yeah, I can relate. I used to drop the kids off at daycare and get halfway to work before I realized I was rockin' out to VeggiTales.

Hey, some of their stuff is really good. LOL

Isn't it crazy how some of those kid tunes get in your head and you can't get them out!

You have to be such a fun mom! Kate must love to hear your beat-box versions of her songs! (-:
