I'm officially hardcore...

...or maybe just old.......
or maybe neither of the two, but at least now I can fit in at my grandma's luncheons.

For the past two days I've drank my coffee black. No sugar, no cream, just plain ol' black. I got to thinking about the horrific amounts of sugar I pour into my coffee everyday and my friend at work dared me to give up the sweet goodness cold turkey. She laughs at me every morning as I stand at the coffee station pouring in my truckload of sugar and cream, and sometimes even a scoop of hot cocoa powder for good measure. I mean, what's the big deal? I only use two scoops of sugar.

Plus one.

Times two.

But who's counting?

So the challenge has begun. I never thought I'd enjoy drinking this cup o' tar, but I must say it's growing on me...very slowly. It doesn't feel quite as heavy and thick. I really can tell that I feel better in the mornings without adding all of the extras. If this continues, Domino Sugar sales will plummet dramatically, so I may need to send them a heads-up.

Now don't get me wrong, I still love my old version of sugared-up nectar, and will still break my neck to pull through my favorite coffee joints to order whatever the flavor of the month is (with extra whip) but as for my everyday-make-at-my-house coffee, I'm going to try to stay on my no sugar streak.

We'll see how it goes.

Just don't even think of asking me to give up the caffeine. Now that's not even funny.

Actually, it's just plain wrong.

You're too funny. I actually don't even try to 'doctor up' my coffee because I don't want to know how many sugars I'd have to put in it to make it taste good.

I've never even tried coffee black. Maybe I'll stick that on my list of things to do before I die (if I had one...).

I don't know how you do it....I don't drink coffee at all, but if I do it has to be loaded up! :)

So funny. I did the same thing about a month ago. Still adjusting but it's definitely easier to prepare in the mornings without having to dump tons of sugar and creamer in it. Just pour and go :)

Good luck!

OK... I just tried going fat-free cream and couldn't even do that... I'm in bad shape, aren't I? :(

Good for you! I don't drink coffee but I would imagine that it couldn't be good for you with all of that sugar. :)

Wow, you are hardcore!! I personally like a little bit of coffee with my sugar and creamer. But I shoudl probably lay off too. I don't think I could go that extreme though. Becuase if there's not coffee, there is always Dr Pepper. (o:

I'm not a coffee fan at all so you're even more hard-core in my book!!!

Man, I am truly impressed! I am like you, MUST add TONS of sugar and cream or I can't drink it. I have no idea how you just went cold turkey! I would say I would try it too...but that would be a lie! haha! In fact, I have tried black coffee once and once was enough!

Whoa - that is hardcore. You can hang with my grandma now too...

To me coffee is only a vehicle for sugar, so what would be the point? :-)

Yeah, black coffee is definitely hardcore. I can't go there. Ew.

In my 20 oz coffee cup goes about 2 oz of creamer and 5 (yes FIVE Splenda). Ha!

I get laughed at for adding sugar and cream too. Everyone tells me I drink my coffee with training wheels. Har, har, har.
Don't care. I like my coffee the way I like it. So there! ;)

I haven't given it up cold turkey- but I am sloooooooowly giving in to the blackness. (Jeremiah said- you know what they say... once they go black... He's an idiot.) I used to be a hazelnut fanatic, but now it is just a dash of sugar and creamer.

Wow, your awesome! I refuse to drink my coffee black. However, I only drink it 2-3 times a week though.

I've tried it before and couldn't handle it. Maybe I should try it again, but I have sugar AND half and half in mine! You really ARE hardcore!

There's something for you over at my blog :)

That's awesome!
I'm trying hard to do the same. Only, I'm not doing so well. I've begun using raw sugar in pinches again.

i say you're hardcore regardless of how you drink your coffee.

Hello!

It's funny because this semester, I have been so busy that at times I forgot to buy my typical vanilla milk for my coffee. Therefore, I would be forced to drink it black (can't give up the caffeine!). I learned that the more stressed out I was, the more I could take it.

Hope you stick with it! :-)

Wow. I'm so impressed. I've been having this dilema for forever myself. Maybe I need to give this a try....EEK!

I don't think I will ever be hardcore, I like too many fru fru drinks to ever go black coffee cold turkey LOL I think I must continue to have a little coffee in my creamer :)

I don't mind black coffee, but it is better w/ stuff. I add 1/2 sweet n low or splenda and some dripplings of creamer (the kind you keep in the fridge). Love it! Congrats on trying to leave it alone, more than likely if you decide to "add" again...you prob. won't add as much.

I'm genuinely impressed. I'm a big flavored creamer person. I don't know if I'd be able to give it up.

Haha... uhm, yeah. Good luck with that ;)

I'm stickin' with the sugary stuff!

(but good for you!)
