Travel size Shmavel size
Last weekend was delightfully uneventful. We stayed home and did 'home stuff', like put out a few more fall decorations, went on a bike ride, and locked myself out of the house. No need to elaborate, you've been there before. You know what it's like. And if you haven't, keep it to yourself and just act like you have for my benefit. It's still an open wound at this point.
I was glad to spend a weekend at home with the fam because M to the Izz-A leaves tomorrow for Brazil. He's going on a 10 day missions trip with three other men from our church. He's excited and nervous at the same time, as am I. We would covet your prayers over the next 10 days.
On a lighter note, going on a trip means buying travel items. So last night we went to Target and Wal-mart and attempted to get him all set up for Brazil. I'm not quite sure how you 'prepare' yourself for Brazil, but we tried. Have any of you bought travel-sized anything lately?! The travel size shaving cream is a joke. It would lather my shin. And that's it. The travel size shampoo? Yea, it would suds-up my bangs.
I can't post long as I'm trying to help him with last minute packing. Men.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow as we see him off. And pray that the Lord will work through him and the others while they're in Brazil.
Oh, and Kate wants to tell ya'll something. But for some reason she wants to wait for Wordless Wednesday to share.
Stay tuned...

I love Charleston, and not just for its Chew
Friday morning started off with me having a doctor's appointment in the opposite direction of the way we were headed, but it was an appointment I was actually looking forward to, so I decided not to cancel it. (More on that to come... ;-)) After the appointment, I gave Sal Gal a text and told her to meet me at my house to pick me up, so that we could hit the road for Charleston.
Really? Ever since she's gotten older and her eyesight is not what it used to be, she has to have this huge magnifying mirror to get ready (put on makeup, etc). It is a hoot! And seriously, if you've never looked into one of these mirrors, don't. Not if you want a shred of self-esteem left to your name. That mirror magnifies things that were never intended to be magnified.
We originally thought that I was missing an earring in this pic, but realized we could see it in later pics taken that night, so it was obviously just hiding. It's okay, that one seems to be blingin' enough for the both of them. Darn flash.
Shoving our money into the 'box' at the parking lot. Primitive.

Sal Gal's homemade racerback. Also know as, barretteback.
This mamma-jamma right here.

Hey Sal, the 1970's called: they want their luggage back.
Proudly displaying her 'cute' luggage bit in an effort to redeem herself for the large red no-no shown above. But ooooh, ouch. She was unaware of the tapestry piece lurking in the background of this shot. Bummer.
After giving M to the Izz A one more nervous look about leaving him and Kate alone for the weekend, I gave them hugs and kisses and hopped in Sal's ride. The girl musta been crazy because she brought her Zune along for the ride, without the cord to plug it into the radio speakers, as if she was gonna ignore me the whole trip. I don't think so. Didn't she know I was excited and completely prepared to talk her head off?! The actual drive to the planned destination is one of my favorite parts of any trip!
Once we arrived, Big Al and Mom showed up right behind us.
And out pops my mom...carrying this:
What can give you a big enough sugar high to do the Carlton (Banks) in your hotel parking lot?
'mise well tuck your tail and run at this point.
Listen, that's what we do. We make fun of each other the entire time and love every minute of it. Take a hit and throw one right back. It just doesn't get any better.

This was trip numero uno of many to come. We're planning on doing it every year, maybe changing the location each time, who knows?

Tomorrow's Friday and I'm looking forward to doing a whole lotta nothing this weekend.
It's finally starting to feel like Fall around here and I'm loving it. It makes me smile...

..And makes me at peace with the fact that my summer tan has long faded and my skin is now the color of a Dove soap bar.

Diary of a Mad White Sock
While digging in my laundry basket attempting to throw a load in the washer before my self-diagnosed ADHD took me to another task all together, I felt a rather stiff clothing item in my hand. When I pulled it to the top, I found this strawberry candied sock:

I had totally forgotten about this lil' fella. And while you're probably wondering how a grown woman ends up with a big glob of candy on her sock, let me take you back to the scene of the crime...
A week or so ago Kate and I headed into town to do a little shopping. To make the trip a little more enjoyable for the both of us, I purchased Kate a sucker, in the shape of a baby's bottle of all things. The nipple portion of the bottle was the sucker while inside the bottle was thepersonwhomadethiscandyobviouslydoesn'thavechildren flavored powder. I thought the sucker would hold her over and she wouldn't notice the strawberry powder inside.
Wrong.
Three licks later and she was begging for it. And since I was in mid-change in the dressing room, I opened it for her and she proceeded to enjoy it in all of its cavity-creating and hyperactivity inducing flavor.
Before long, she decided that the little stick made for dipping just wasn't cutting it and she tipped the bottle up into her mouth. The majority of the powder went in her mouth and she smiled. Then I heard, "Too much....too much, Mama." And she leans over to spit it into the Target dressing room floor. Now, I'm not gonna lie, had the powder been a lighter color, I may have let her continue with her efforts but since it was bright pink, I demanded she wait one second while I desperately searched for something for her to spit it into.
Nothing.
I couldn't find anything in the dressing room or my purse for her to use, until I noticed a lonely pair of socks hanging out in the bottom of my purse, which had been left in there from the week before when I went shopping for a new pair of sneaks. (I refuse to dig in store's complimentary sock bin while trying on shoes and usually have a spare pair in my purse for that purpose.)
So I grabbed a sock and let her spit her entire mouth contents onto it. I thought about just leaving the sock because 1) it's now sticky and gross and 2) it's probably going to be permanently stained, but it's one of my favorites so I rolled it up and stuck it back into my purse.
I'd pretty much forgotten about it until I ran across it last week. I figured the stain was there for good since I had so responsibly let it sit in my laundry basket for over week, but decided to try and salvage it.
Thank goodness for my laundry BFF, because the stain is gone and the sock is as good as new.
There isn't one.

The moral of this story?
There isn't one.
Or if there is one, I'm too tired to think of what it is.
Sometimes I just think that ya'll need to know some of the crazy junk that goes on around here.
